Although there is a- slight improvement as regards men -who register iu Dunedin as recruits and then fail to come up for medical examination, there is still a large number of names on the register, the total at present being 170. The number of men who fail to parade when mobilised mounts steadily with each reinforcement draft, there now being something like 140 such defaulters. " Temporary unfits," as recruits who are "deferred" for various reasons by the medical authorities are termed, are piling up fast in the Dunedin group. At present there are over 400 men. on t.lre temporary unfit twister. Only a few of these havo been held back from the early reinforcements, the bulk being'men who enlisted from the Sixth lUinforcements upwards. The majority have been temporarily rejected on account of defective teeth, bub there are also a, considerable number who require operations (or varicose veins> varicocele, and hernia. There aro no less than 87 men receiving free dental treatment, bub in this connection it might be stated that there are some men who have a bad habit of failing to keep appointments with, the dentist.. °
