PUBLIC BATHS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l noticed in your correspondence column a letter signed "Pure Water." Will you permit me to mention what is considered a menace to the health of the whole of Dunedin—i.e., the condition of the water as supplied to the Municipal Baths. This subject has often been touched upon, but our councillors always ignore it, and for want of support from the public in general it is allowed to pass unnoticed. Any one of our councillors who could outline a scheme and see it through for the provision of a filter bed close to our source of supply for purifying our drinking water (for I presume it is fresh water that is supplied to our Municipal Baths) would never want for support at any election of councillors, for he would be killing two birds "with one stone, which in this time of economy would be doing that which the Dunedin public would esteem a great.favor. I.would like to see someone with authority take this suggestion seriously, and oblige the public of°the City.—l am, etc., Pure Water No. 2. February 7. [The chairman of the Water Committee (Cr Wilson) informs us that the matter is receiving attention. The discoloration is due to the presence of a weed in the water, and steps are being taken to have this eradicated. Further, tenders have been invited for the installation of a filtration system forvthe water supply.— Ed. E.S.]
