A GREAT SCOTCH DAY
'lhe Hospital Saturday Association's annual collection will be taken up on Friday next. Half the proceeds are to be devoted to the Highlands and Islands relief fund, the, other ha if to be divided ajnong the usual beneficiaries. We are sure these objects will appeal very strongly to all citizens of Dunedin. It is well known how many of the men have responded to the Empire's call, and the dependents are now in great distress. We are sure the needs of tho people will arouse . the sympathy of all residents of Otago. The various Scottish societies are co-operating with the association to make tho collection, a record one, and the association propose to make Friday a real S'cotch day in Dunedin. Tho stalls will be decorated with different tartans, and each stall will represent some Scotch clan. There will be all manner of Scotch products for sale, such as oatcakes, girdle scones, haggis, etc., as well ;ts flowers and other kinds of goods. There will be neat badges. An exemption badge, costing ss, can he purchased by those who wish to give their contribution in one amount. _ The beneficiaries affiliated to the association have had many extra calls made upon them on account of the war and are greatly in need of funds, and we trust the public will respond as generously as in the past and enable them to carry on for another year. On Thursday evening the City bands have consented to give a concert in the Botanic Gardens in aid of the fund. An excellent programme has been arranged, and the public will be able to spend a pleasant evening. Collectors will be. at the gate to receive a silver coin for admission.
