* IS" DUNEDIX. To-day was as close a holiday as Boxing Day, or almost as close. The whole population seemed bent on observing it. The day broke fine and' warm, without any wind, ami all the early trains and harbor steamers were well patronised by picnickers. An hour or two after breakfast a rather chilly breeze sprang up from the south-west, and the clouds gathered, and as the wind grew in strength the City was made unpleasant by dust storms. No rain, however, fell during the morning nor in the early afternoon, and the outings in places where there is good shelter were endurable if not ideal. Many pereons who sought their pleasure .in the open, on the beach, and so forth had had enough of it by mid-day, and a run was made for Citybound trams Ions; before the sun had got far down. T:ie experiences of to-day again prove the need of some shelter at St. Clair in particular. Families who intended to epend the day there were driven off. RAIN. AT WELLINGTON. A Press Association message states that the elaborate arrangements made to celebrate Labor Day in Wellington* were marred by heavy rain.
