THINGS HIDDEN: THINGS TOLD
Robert Blatehford, writing in the ' Weekly Dispatch,' n.sks : Is there a single thoughtful person in the country who has unshaken confidence in the Government? Is theie a single person who is satisfied with the conduct of the war? Who was responsible for tho terrible shell muddle? We have not been told. Who was responsible for the disastrous opening of the Dardanelles campaign? We have not been told. Who was responsible for the Antwerp disaster? We have not been told. Who was responsible for the "victory" of Neuve Chapelle? We have not bien told. Who was responsible for the loss of Admiral Cradock's squadron? We have not been told. But we wen told that Mr Winston Churchill saved us from invasion by ordering the fleets to sea,, and now we are told that this is not true. Columns of eulogy have been expended upon Mr Churchill for his initiative, his boldness, and his wisdom in stopping the demobilisation of the fleets; and nor it turns out that Jlr Churchill's intellectual and spiritual greatness was taking a holiday at the time, and that the famous order was given by the First Spa Lord, Princo Louis of Battenberg. That timely order, which sent the Navy to its post, is the one act to the credit of the Government, and now we are told that the credit is not theirs at all.
