A Sydney cable an pounces the death of Dr John Ashburton Thom peon, ex-presi-dent of the New South Wales Board of Health; aged 67 years. Police-superintendent John Ellison, of Wellington, will retire on superannuation at the end of the present month. In speaking at a parade of the Nelson Police Force on Tuesday, in reply to some flattering remarks upon his long and honorable career as a police officer. Superintendent Ellison mentioned that he did not intend to take advantage of the provision to continue in the service for an extra six months, as it was his opinion that when an officer reached the ag© limit of 65 ho should retire. It is Superintendent Ellison’s intention to visit_ England and to return to the Dominion.
