WHITE FEATHER WOMEN

Some very strong remarks on the conduct \ of the " white feather" women wera made ; by Mr Reginald Kemp, J.P., the deputy coroner for Wast Middlesex, at an inquest at Ealing on Richard Charles Roberts, aged 34, a taari;driver, of Shepherd's Bush, who committed suicide by shooting himself in consequence of worry caused elilefly by his rejection from the Army and the taunts of women and other amateur recruiters. It was slated that deceased tried to join tho Army in October, but was rejected owing to a weak heart. He had been very depressed ever since, said his widow. A soldier relative said deceased'* life "had been made a perfect misery by women taunting him, and calling him a coward, because . •he would not join the Army. A few days ; ago two women in Maida Vale insulted him ;• " something shocking." ' ' ] The Coroner, speaking with some warmth, ■ said the conduct of such women was absc- ; lutely abominable.. It was scandalous that -f women who knew nothing of. the circum- ' stances should be allowed to go alxrat mak- : ing unbearable tho lives of inen who had , tried to do their duty. It was a. pity they : had nothing better to do. Herfe was a man ' who had been driven to death, perhaps by a pack of silly women. They ought to *be downright ashamed of themselves, and he hoped soniething would soon be done to put a stop to euch conduct.
