DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS

The. above society's 14th annual festival will commence, on "Wednesday loth inst. Tho festival will, as usual' be held m His Majesty's Theatre and Victoria Hall. Very satisfactory entries have been received, and though there is a slight falling off from previous years, there will be good competition in all sections. Several new items have been included in the syllabus this vear. .1 he piano solo (own selection, open to all) has attracted a good entry, and lovers of pianoforte music should hear some excellent performances in this section. The committee have included this year a champion vocal solo, open to all. Competitors have to sing an operatic selection and a ballad. Excellent entries have been received for this competition, and it should also prove a very P i? S , lug ltem to tne audience. The half-hour entertainments and comediettas also promise tc be more attractive than usual, and excellent programmes V ave ,' ,een arranged for each session. ,i ,' Pame (Melbourne), who is well known to Dunedin competitors will judge the elocution; while MiHector R. Maclean (Sydney) will adjudicate in the musical sections. It is hoped the public will accord tho society their generous supnort, as it is recognised that the competitions have done a great deal to raise tho standard of music and elocution in our Citv, and the public are assured of an excellent entertainment eacli session. The afternoon sessions should prove most entertaining, while the recalls from the day sessions will, as usual, bo heard in the evening.
