PERSONAL NOTES. Lieutenant R. M. Watson, sth Mounted Regiment, Otago Hussars (reported killed in action] was the eldest son of S. 0. Watson, Traquair Station, Outram. "Bob" was 22 years of age. He received his primary education at Windsor, North Otago, where his parents at that time resided and later at the Waitaki Boys' High School. He has been a keen supporter of the Territorial system ever since its inception, and volunteered for service immediately on the outbreak of the war, receiving his commission from General Godley-j and being appointed to Major Orbolrs staff. [ Pnvato Arthur Bcverlv Rutherford (reported wounded at the Dardanelles on i £? gl l? fc ? ) is the second s°n of Mr and Mrs |W. Rutherford, 12 Logie street, Northeast Valley. He was born in Dunedin and was 28 years of age. He was named after the late Arthur Beverly, of Heriot Row, Dunedin, and was educated at'the Union Street School Till the time of enlisting he was in the employment of Messrs Young and Anderson, grocers. He left with the Third Reinforcements. Private Rutherford is a fine stamp of manhood, and a good sport. When quite a lad he was a member of the North End Boating Club, and was amongst the winners of the Maiden Fours, 1902. also Dr Closs's fours, 1902, and the Maiden Double Sculls. Port Chalmers, 1902." He was a prominent member of St. Andrew Harriers, winning the five mile cross-country championship in 1908 and 1909, and many other trophies. Private ■'Rutherford made many-friends and is respected by all. His brother, Robert Henry Rutherford, is serving at the front. - Private Leonard J. Wraight (reported vyounded) is a son of Mr L. Wraight, of Kaikorai Valley. He was educated at the Kaikorai School, and was apprenticed to : the building trade, being in the employ of Messrs Cooper Bros. He was one of the I first to_ join the 4th (Otago) Regiment 6f the Main Expeditionary Force, with whom he proceeded to the front. He took part in the historic landing on Gallipoli Peninsula, Later ho was transferred to the First Company of the New Zealand Field Engineers, _in which company he served for some time before he was wounded in the left hand. He is now in a hospital in England, and is reported to be progressing favorably. Mr T. E. Loach, of Papanui road.' Clnrstchurch, has been officially advised that his second son, Private George Wallace Loach, Wellington Battalion, was reported missing from August 8, and is now believed to have been killed. This is the first intimation Private Loach's parents have received of his having been reported missing. Private Loach was 27 years old, • and was a younger brother of Lieutenantcolonel A. E. Loach, of the Canterbury Battalion. For some years past he had been engaged with a younger brother in a plumbing business in Hastings. Corporal D. R.. B. Lascelles (Wellington Battalion, missing) is a son of Mr Henry Lascelles, of Greenmeadows, near Napier. He is an accountant by profession, and prior to joining the Main Expeditionary Force was in business in Hastings. He was wounded in one of the earlier engagements, but was not long absent from the bring hne. His brother, Captain E. F. W. Lascelles, 3rd Dragoon Guards, is a staff officer at Gallipoli. Gunner George Victor Wadefield Falder (died of wounds) left New Zealand with the Second Reinforcements. He was nearly three months at Gallipoli. Bom in 1893 at Adelaide, the late' Gunner Faider came to New Zealand, where he was educated at the Kaikorai School (Dunedin) and later at Wellington College, where at the age of 15, he secured his matriculation. In _ 1910 he went with his parents to laranaki, where he took up farming with his father, Mr J. G. Faider, of the iiast road.

Private Clarence Kimber Duggan (Wellington Battalion, previously reported missing, now believed to be killed) is the youngest son of the late Mr George Duggan and MK Lucy Duggan, 240 Cashel street Chnstchurch. He was born in Ohristchurch 23 years 'ago, and educated at the Woolston School. For a time he was in the employ of Messrs Strange and to. m Christchurch. Then he went to the ISorth Island, and at the time he enlisted with the Fourth Reinforcements was working at Wanganui. Private Frank William Mundy (Wellington Battalion, previously reported wounded, now reported missing and believed to have been killed) is the eldest son of Mrs I. Greig, of 8 Halkett street, Christchurch, and is 27 years of age Born in Christchurch, he was educated at the Waltham School, and later at the West Christchurch School. For two years he served in the Lyttelton Navals. Prior to enlistment he was employed at Mr larsons's monumental works. He enlisted at Napier with the Third Reinforcements.

Trooper F. V. Byrch- was a son of Mrs A. W. Byrch, of Colombo street, Christ: church,, and Motunau. North Canterbury : He was educated at Christ's College. He' joined the force when the war broke o-it and sailed for Etrypt with the Third Reinforcements. He was 28 years of aue He was wounded at the Dardanelles, and died from his wounds in the General Hospital at Cairo. He was working on the Motunau Estate when the war broke out. Airs Byrch has another son at the front Private Henry Byrch, who left with the mam body. He has been wounded twice and is now in hospital. He was educated at Mr Wilson's private school, Cranmer square, and when he joined the Expeditionary Force was engaged in farming pursuits in South Canterbury. The brothers were born in Lewisham) Worcestershire England. ' Private Nopera Hape Mokomoko (Maori Contingent, died of enteric) was about 29 years of age, and belonged to Tuahiwi. From his grandfather, Makariria Mokomoko, who was an old Maori fighting man, Nopera inherited a fairly large area of land, and was well off; but when the call for men came his life became charged with the fire of military zeal, and he joined the Native Contingent. His early education was obtained at the Tuahiwi Native School under Mr H. J. Reeves and Mr D. Cossgrove.

Mr W. Lewis, of Kamahi, has received advice that his son, Trooper W. Lewis, who was reported wounded some days ago, has been admitted to a London hospital suffering from a- fractured forearm and gunshot wounds in the hip, and is progressing as well as can be expected. Trooper Lewis was a member of the Southland Mounted Regiment, and prior to his departure to the front was employed as a conductor on the Invercargill trams. He is a brother of Mr T. G. Lewis, of Mornington, who was recently appointed Town Clerk of Waimate..
