• PARIS, September 2. (Received September 3, at 12.10 p.m.) A communique hails the Russian suocess in Galicia on the Strypa, and adds i "This victory shows that the Russian armies are master* of the conditions under which their retreat continues, and are capable of assuming the offensive whenever the circumstances are favorable." A particularly heavy artillery etrugrile in Artois, in the Argonne, and in the Vosges continues. The Fienoh. batteries silenced the enemy's guns.
