The original idea was to right over a short front and drive a wedge in with massed forces, but Russian strategy compelled tho Germans to extend, and the latter thus lost the initial advantage. IN TRANSCAUCASIA. PRTROGRAD, Mar 30. Official: The Russians at Van (Kurdistan) captured 26 gv\s and other arms, great stores of provisions, and also the Government Treasury. The Turks were pursued southwards and westwards with heavv losses.
