Before concluding the meeting the Mayor said that that was the last meeting of £ha present council, and on looking back at the work accomplished during tho last two years he was sure every councillor could honestly feel that the affairs of the borough hadi been carried on successfully and on strictly business lines. The rates had not been increased. All work undertaken during- the period had to be. paid for out of revenue, and considering that such large works as the quarry bridge and Owhiro bridge had been carried out, it was very satisfactory to know that the borough * overdraft at the bank had not been very much increased. He. paid a tribute to the work of the staff and the Town Clerk, and thanked councillors, especially the chairmen of the various committees, for assistance and courtesy extended to liini during his term as Mayor. He had been approached by leading citizens, whose judgment and opinion he respected, to again offer his services as Mayor to the borough, and it gave him pleasure to comply with their wishes. He understood that the majority of the councillors, if not all, would seek re-election, and hei horded they would return to tho oounc.il ijable. (Applause.)
