The fruit market for the past •week has been fairly well supplied with all kinds of soft fruits, and the prioes on the whole have 6omewh.it improved, as ia usually the case at this lim« of the year, buying being somewhat heavier to meet ■the demand of the Easter trade. Good Bon Chretien pears meet with a ready market, as also do good varieties of apples, more especially Cox'e Orange, Pippin, Scarlets, and Jonathans. Tomatoes hav* been far in excess of the demand, and growers have had to be satisfied with \*ery low returns. Pe,-iches are now nearly finished for tho season. The same applied to nectarines. Oranges are, much, inquired for : a small shipment arrived on Monday Ja.*t from Tahiti, lmt the condition of same was anything but desirable.. Bananas : A shipment arrived this -week, but they were in perfectly unsaleable condition. Produce : Practically no chang* has taken place during the past 'week ia the produce market. Eggs still remain firm at Is 7d for guaranteed stamped fresh e£2rs. Butter : No change. Onions: The market is well supplied. Potatoae are much easier, consignments coming forward much freer. Tomatoes.—Choirs tomatoes, hothouse, sd, 6d, to 6J,d per lb; Christ-church and Auckland from 2d to 4d; Nelson crown, 2s 6d. 3s, 4s, to 5s 6d per box. Market glutted. Apples.—-Good dessert. 2J[d to 2Jd net lb; cookers, Id, Ijd, to lgd ; jelly apploe, 7s 6d per i:\vt ; ('ox's orange, 7k 6d to> 9s; Pom do Neigc, 6s od to 7s box; Scarlets. 6s 6d to 7s; King David, 6e 5d to 6s 9d box. Pears.—Bon Chretiens, 6s M per cm*', Jargonelles, 6s per case; cookers, up to 5s per .case. Market mora ewr.lv supplied. Plums.—Fair sample. 2-£ d to 2|4 lb; medium. 3d to 3jd : fiessert, 4d, sd, 6d, to 7d per lb; gage?, 4d to 5d per lb. Peaches.— Jem fruit nearly finished j medium, to 3d : desert, in cratoe—a few crates have come forward, but th« demand for same \\:\*. not great, nalisini? from 4rl, 4J,d, to 5d ; Nelson grown, 4a to 4s 6d box. Apricots.—Finished for the season. Oranges.—Taliitis urn now on the matkef. "\Vo quote : 12s 6d repacked. Lemons. —We quote : l(k per ca*9, Italians. Grapes. —Loral hothouse, Bd, B£d, to 9d lb : Nelsons. 7d par lb. Bananas.—Very short supplies. A small shipment arrived this week In an overripe condition. Cucumbers, 5s to 6s per dozen. Green Peas.—Choice cample, to 3d per lb. New Potatoes.—White- skins, £4 10s, £5, to £5 & per ton: red skins, £2 10s to £3 ton. Onions, £5 15s to £6 per ton. Cauliflowers, 3s to 4s per dozen. Cabbage, 2s to 3s per sack. French beans, 2id to 3d par lb. Rhubarb.—Very * slow Sale, 9s 6d to 10s 6d per cwt. Peanute.—No. 1 Japanese. handpicked, new iwason'G, 2jd per lb. Honey.—New season's bulk, 3fd to 4d per lb ;" 101b tins, 3s 6d. Beeswax.—Good demand, Is 4d per !b. Pigs.—Prime baconera are inquired for up to s£d per lb. Egga.—Fresh, guaranteed stamped, Is 7d to Is 8d per dozen; ordinary cased, Is 5d the dozen. Butter.—Pats, 10id to lid pea: lb; separator, to Is per lb; bulk, lOd. Chaff.—Prime quality, £6 5s to £6 10s ■per ton.
