SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY. A very enjoyable entertainment, to mark the 36th anniversary of the Dun das Street Met/hodist Sunday i&chool, was held in the school hall last evening. The function took the form of a musical evening, and the opportunity was also taken to present ■the prizes won to the successful scholars. There was a very large muster of parents and scholars. Mr E. A. Hosevear occupied the chair. in presenting the annual report, the secretary (Mr F. W. Parker) stated that the school had carried on its work throughout the year under the supenntendency of Mr \V. M. Roberts. A great handicap was experienced early in the year through the lack of teachers, but this is generally the case, on account of the staff constantly changing. The services of Mr Patey and Mr E S. King were lost during the year. The latter worked lor a great many years in the school, and held the position of vicesuperintendent. He has now taken the position of superintendent of the Woodnaugh Sunday School, and he is wished every success in nis new sphere. Mr Wm. King, one of the old superintendents, saw that the school was hard pressed _ for teachers, and kindly offered lus services; and also Miss M. Bruce, who has taken Mr Patey’s class. The total staff numbers 24, and the average attendance was 18. The total number of scholars on the roll is at present 190—a decrease of 10 for the year. The average attendance of scholars was 132. The annual picnic was held at Broad Bay, and although the afternoon was marred by an occasional shower of rain, the outing proved most enjoyable. Miss Mansell, for acting as pianist, and Messrs Young and Wilkinson specially deserve thanks for their good work during the year. The musical portion of the programme was excellently rendered, and reflected great credit on those officials responsible for the training of the young people, who entirely were the contributors. Songs were sung by Misses Ettie Williams, Isa Duff, L. Gresty, Nettie Wilkie. Recitations were prominent throughout, those contributing being Misses Irene Hutchinson, Sadie Beecher, Lena Hendra, Bessie Hendra, Doris Gillam, Hilda White, Mary White, Alice" Hendra, Flora Cormick, and Master Robert Kenna. A vocal duet was sung admirably by Miss L. Gresty and Mr P. H. Young, and a piano duet was played by Misses Queenie and Mabel Thompson. Three dialogues were performed in a very acceptable manner, the participants being Misses -Sadie Beecher, L. Holdaway, and Masters Fred. Broad, E. Hitchcock, and Chris. Jackson. Several patriotic choruses were rendered -by the school choir, including the familiar ‘ Tipperary ’ song, and which the audience thoroughly appreciates. During the course of the proceedings the Chairman presented the prizes to the following ; Girls.—No. 1 : Eileen Pollock, Ist class; Lena Hendra, 2nd class. No. 2: Jean Hendra, Violet Hitchcock, Lily Holdaway, Netta Wilkie, Ist class ; Lily Broad and Muriel Bellworthy, 2nd class. No. 3 : Sadie Beecher, Ist class; .Doris Hughes and Flora Cormick, 2nd class. No. 4 : Rita Palmer, Queenie Thomson, Bessie Hendra, Ist class. No. 5 : Hazel Bain, Maud Holdaway, Isa Duff, Alice Hendra, Ist class; Irene Hutchinson, 2nd class. No. 6 : Mabel Thomson, Ist class; Phoebe Perry, H. Faulkner, A. Aitken, 2nd class. No. 7 : V. Bain, let class; Lennie Hendra, 2nd class.
