DUNEDIN I'HILHARMOXIG' CO>. C'ER T. Tho Dunedin Philharmonic Society's concert, to be held in the Garrison Hall to-morrow evening, promises to bo one of tho greatest musical treats offered to the public for some- time. The chief item of interest will be the military caprice composed by the society's conductor (Signor Wquarise) specially for this concert. Signor Sijuarise has composed numerous selections, but it is doubtful if any of his previous efforts will meet with more favorable- approbation than this composition, to be played for tho first time, to-morrow evening. '-The selection is stirring and tuneful, and is descriptive of the great war at present raging in. Europe, and the National Anthems of tho allied nations aro cleverly introduced. Altogether this item should cause enthusiasm. The programme opens with the National Anthem, and the orchestra, will then play 'La Jlarseillaise.' This will be followed by march 'La. Fanfara Militaire,' also by the pen of Signor Squariße ; symphonic poem Finlandia (Sibelius); suite, ' Impression Exetiques' (Manton), which is being performed for the first time in New Zealand; and the programme also includes two light selections for the string section. Mr W Gemmell will be heard in Schumann's ' Two Grenadiers,' and Miss Ivy Mazengarb will recite ' England Goes to Battle' (Massey). The society have decided to hand the whole of the proceeds from the sale of tickets to the committee of the Huntly mining disaster fund, and this object
