BOWLING

OTAGO CLUB. About 40 members attended the annual meeting of the above club last evening. Mi' 0. Speight (president), who occupied the chair, expressed pleisurc at feeing such a good attendance, as it went to prove that members took an inter-Ai in the welfare of the club. Before procvr-chiig with the business of the evening he ■ asked those present to receive a deputation. Colonel Stonehilm and two other members of the National- Reserve briefly explained the objects of the movement, and expressed the wish that many members of the Otago Club would .join the reserve. Several signified their intention of becoming members. The Chairman then formally moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, and congratulated members on the success 1 that had attended the club during the past season.

Mr E. S. Paterson seconded the motion, which was carried. The office-bearers were then elected as follow:—Patron, Mr W. Dawson; president, Mr C. -Speight; vice-presidents, Captain Sundstrum and Mr C. R. Smith; treasurer, Mr J. Hamilton; secretary, Mr J. Kemnitz; assistant secretary, Mr John Brown; auditor. Mr E. Cameron; committee—Messrs W. "fcobson, R. Watts, F. H. King, J. R. Glover, H. Maxwell, J. M'Peak; selector, Mr C. R. Smith; coaches —Messrs H. Maxwell, 0. Beaa'.ey, C, M'Peak, J. Hamilton, W. Robson; delegates Dunedin Centre—-Messrs J. R. Glover and C. R. Smith.

In accordance -with notice given, Mr Speight moved—"That it be an instruction to the Club Tie Committee that all club ties be concluded by the dates specified by the committee." Mr J. Brown seconded the motion, which was carried.

The prizes won during the season were presented as follow :—Champion Singles— J. Hamilton 1, C. R. Smith 2. Champion Rinks—Messrs T. M'Gregor/ W. Wilson, C. Beasley, and J. Hamilton (s), 1: Messrs J. Henderson, XV. Henderson, A. Melville, and W. G. Hay"(s), 2. Champion Doubles —Messrs E. S. Paterson and F. H. King (s), 1; Messrs P. M'Caskill and P. Marks (s), 2. Handicap Singles—-H. L. Smith 1, J. M'Combie 2. Mr C. R. Smith said it had been decided by the Bowling Council that a player must have a portion or the whole of both feet on the mat when delivering a bowl. Ho felt sure it was a step in the right direction, and he had not the slightest doubt that members would take kindly to the innovation.

The nominations of four new members were received, and these will be balloted for later, on.

Votes of thanks to last season's officebearers, to the ladies, the Press, and a special one to the retiring secretary (Mr Milne), concluded the meeting.

ROSLYN CLUB. Members of the Roslyn Bowling held their annual social, together with the presentation of prizes, in their pavilion last night. As H is the custom of the club to extend invitations to tho' members' wives and other lady friends on these occasions, the elaborately-constructed little building was comfortably tilled. Among those present wei-e also a number of members of other bowling clubs, _ who were cordially welcomed by the president (Mr W. A. Wilkinson). Progressive euchre was indulged in bv the company in a. very keen and enjoyable manner, and at intervals a few vocal and elocutionary items were rendered by the following : Pianoforte solos, Mrs" A. Do Beer and Miss Baker; 3on£S —Mrs T. Wilkinson, Miss Aslin, and Air J. H. Matheson ; recitation, Mr G. A. Harlow.

Before refreshments were, dispensed, the president presented the prizes to the successful bowlers during the past season. The list is as follows:—Champion Singles, E. H. Fountain, cup and trophy. Handicap Singles—A. Barnett 1, E. H. Fountain 2. Rinks: G. A. Scott, W. Gow, T." Howard, C. H. Matthews 1; F, Favlcv, A. M. Ross, A. Slater, E. H. Fountain 2. Doubles: W. D. Wilson, G. Wedderspoon 1; J. S. Webb, D. Scott, 2. Special trophies: J. H. F. Hamol, W. fi. Davis, G. A. Harlow. P. Merchant, J. Botting.
