TONGARIRO PARK

A denotation, representing the New Zejt- j land Institute and others interested in the '■ establishment and maintenance of national \ reserves, asked the Prime Minister to-day i to consider the advisability of defining and. i to some extent extending the boundaries of | Tongariro National Park. The deputation J exolained that they did not ask for one j acre of land that could be used for farm- ! ing, forest, or milling purposes. Ther j simply desired to improve the scenic fea- j tares of the reserve. The Hon. Mr! Massey, in reply, said thai the Govern- ! ment "had decided to improve the pa.rk. ; A board had been in existence for many ! years, but he did not know that anything Jhad been done bv that board. Th'e Go- ! vernment proposed to include in the hoard j several gentlemen who would take an interest in the preservation of our scenery, i and take an interest, too, in the develop- j ment of Tongariro Park. The members , would be representatives from Auckland j and Wellington Provinces* j
