WEST HARBOR COUNCIL

Tho monthly meeting of the Host Harbor Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr J. M. .Blackie), Crs Connor. Gooch, Grant. Dowries, Irergie, Mitchell. Barker, and Star ham. apologies for absence being received from Crs Mollev and Harridge. • —-Correspondence. The Waikouaiti County Council notified that- it agreed to pay half-cost of two tracks of metal for Boundary road, Sawyers Hav. The letter also a-sked if tin- West Harbor Council would join in putting in a new culvert in Station road. Sawyers Bay. -—The.request for a culvert was referred to the Works Committee. The Town Clerk (Dunedin) wrote stating that the City Council wa-s. prepared to allow its stuff to repair any breakages, that might- occur to the West Harbor mains within the City boundaries at cost price plus 10 per cent. —It was agrqed to accept the offer of the- council. In reply to the council’s letter requesting information ns to where it w:m proposed to erect houses under the provision© of tho Workers' Dwellings Act in Main,, the oflker-in-cliarge of the Department of Labor wrote stating that be could not- give anv definite information, as he had not had a'single application for houses _ to_ be erected on the# property. If applications were forthcoming ho believed they would be favorably considered. —Received. R. A. Jack, librarian and treasurer of the West Harbor Public Library, wrote staling that it had been suggested that tho committee of the- library should approach the council with a request for assitancc. The library was maintained by members’ subscriptions of Is a quarter, together with a. Government- subsidy. It had been in existence for about 30 years, and no appeal had before been made to the. council. —Tho matter was referred to the. Finance Committee for a report.

The secretary of the Otago Brandi of the \eiv Zealand Institute of Architects wrote asking for a contribution of £3 in connection with the visit of town-planning lecturers. —Referred to Finance Committee. The Assistant Under-Secret ary of Internal Affairs wrote inquiring whether the council had appointed an inspector of buildings ns provided by the Municipal Corporations Act.—This matter was held over till next meeting. ■—General.—

The Works Committee reported that one surfaceman had been working in Ravens-' bourne and Rothesay It aids, and the other surfaceman in Sawyers Bay and St. Leonards. Ihe committee recommended that six trucks of gravel be obtained for Ravensbourno and Rothesay, and akr> enough to ■finish Sawyers Bay and St. Leonards. — Adopted.

The- resignation of Mr Reynell. 1 own Clerk, was accepted with regret. It was decided to call' for applications for tlmposition. and to hold a special meeting ot the council on July 20 to make an appointment.
