The condition of Mr Walter George Geddes (who is 93 years of age to-day) is causing his friends grave concern. Mrs Turner, formerly of Stirling, died at Wellington on Sunday, at the ago of 60. Tho deceased lady was* the Widow of Mr George Robert Turner, manager of the Bank of New Zealand in Baldutha in the earlv days, and a daughter of the late Mr Archibald Anderson, of Jjtiriing.— Balclufcha 4 Free Frees.’ _
The Rev. Duncan Rankin, at present vicar of Nascby, who has been appointed curate at vSt. ‘Mary’s Church, Meriva-le, Christchurch, will take up his duties on September 1. His Honor Mr Justice Sim is expected to return to Dunedin on -Saturday. Mr A. E. Reynolds, of the local Magistrate’s Court office, has been transferred to the Lyttelton office. ’ Mr Duncan Neven, touring manager for* Mischa Elman, is in town, Mr Neven is an ex-Ncw Zealander, and it is four years since he. has been through hero. Mr Charles Knight also reached Dunedin last evening to pave the way for ‘Tho Roeary’ season. A London cable states that tho operation on Colin Bell, tho Austadian boxer, proved satisfactory.
A Christchurch message announces Ufio death of Lieutenant Alfred Noakes, who has been a resident of the Dominion for tho last eight years. The previous 20 years he was in South Africa, and served in the Bechuanaland campaign and South African War. He hold tiro King’s and Queen’s medals.
