In the Federal House of Representatives, on the motion for going into Committee of Supply, the Treasurer (Sir John Forrest) made a statement indicating that the financial vear would end with a surplus of £824.305. The Opposition then resumed their stonewall with a view to forcing Mr Cook to make a further statement repardinp the advice he tendered to Sir Ronald Munro-Ferguson. The debate was adjourned, and will probablv stand over to next week. In the -Senate the Referenda Bill was rend a third time. AN UNDERSTANDING CONCERNING THE FUTURE, BUT NOT THE PRESENT. MELBOURNE. June 12. A conference of the two Federal parties failpd to reach an agreement regarding the conduct of business. It is understood, however, that an arrangement has been made whereby the double dissolution will be p-oelaimed on Julv 20, and the elections held if possible, on September 5. Strenuor.s efforts are being made to complete the new rolls in time.
