AN UNLICENSED DENTIST

FINED £2O.

[Pee United Press Association.]

INVERCARGILL, June 10.

A judgment of interest to dentists was delivered by Mr Hutchison, S.M., to-day. W. S. Platt, trading as the Anglo-Ameri-can Dental, was charged under three informations with,. while not being a registered dentist, issuing a card and advertisement, by inference adopting the title of dentist. Counsel for the defence contended that the intention of the statute was to prevent unlicensed persons practising dentistry, and that as defendant did not himself practise, but employed others to do so, he was not amenable to the statute. The Magistrate held that there was sufficient to prove that accused used words which, tended to produce the belief that it was a dental company—that is, that the defendant was qualified. Fines totalling £2O were imposed.
