ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
Charles Nicholls, second son of Mr W. Nicholls, of the Kaput one Wool Works, Belfast (Canterbury), met his death as the result of an accident which occurred yesterday. He was going home to lunch 'on a motor cycle, keeping to the tramline. When opposite the Waimairi County Council Chambers he swerved off to avoid a tramcar, but he evidently misjudged the distance, the car catching the back wheel and precipitating him on to the road. He was picked up in an unconscious condition, suffering from various injuries to his face and arms. Ho never regained consciousness, and died about 2.30 p.m. A wharf laborer earned Fitzpatrick had his leg broken while assisting to discharge the Walkure at New Plymouth this morning, through a sling breaking. It is feared that he has also suffered internal injuries. An Auckland message states that Arthur M;van, aped 26, was drowned at RiverRead while crossing the river on horseback. 'Kie animal slipped into a deep pool, from which Mann's body was re covered half an hour later.
Word was received in town this morning that Mr H. Linklater, manager of t'lio Jloehstctter Company, had been found drowned at Riverview, in the Aliatira district. —Greymouth wire.
