PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD ELECTION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Next Wednesday the electors of the' North-east Harbor subdivision of this board will be called upon to elect two members to represent their interests on this board. This subdivision includes a number of well-known bays where settlement is making headway, -and it is exceed burly desirable that those interested in the welfare of these suburbs to Dunedi>. should have recognition on the board. Now that the road is practically open to motor traffic, well-regulated control is r.ecessary, and the necessity for proper limits to motorists must be urged upon those who lave the making, of the bylaws. It is to be desired that those who are interested in the development of tlf«e districts will exercise their privilege, and vote for those gentlemen who are progressive in their policy, but nho yet have ni view the larger requirements of this district. It must l.e evident that of the present members Messrs Johnson and Fulton have not been interosted in the general welfare of these settlements, but 1-ave been more concerned in trying to get motor traffic bn the roads. Motor traffic is desirable, but it is not, the only pressing need. The state of the bridge at Anderson Bay is a disgrace to the local bodies concerned, ;nd unless some prompt action is taken thi% short cut to the Lower Harbor will be cut off Are th;se members going t* wait until some serious accident occurs? Let us have representatives on the board who are prepared to work in harmony with the representatives of the farming community to foster 'he interests of all.—l am, etc., Old Identity. Macandrcw Bay, April 50.
