CONQUEST OF CUPID
MP TO \HRRY FOKMKR POLITICAL I ' ANTAGONIST. I Out of the prosaic atmosphere of politics | has developed a little love story peculiarly I interesting, because of its unusual inception. The happy man is Mr Noel Buxton. Liberal M.P. for North Norfolk, and his affianced wife, Miss Lucy Pelhain Burn. who comes from a well-known _ Unionist family in Cromer. The romance really becail when Mr Buxton referred to the lady in somewhat satirical terms, which drew upon him a chorus of indicnant con demnation from hjr friends. Miss Burn was one of Mr Buxton's most vigorous political opponents in his constituency, in an effort to otift him from which she played a spirited part. When th* fortunes of the Unionist partv were at a low ebb in North Norfolk, Miss" Burn infused new life into the local party bra .series of meetings with the avowed object of bringing about Mr Buxton's defeat. She also organised a petition against tho In-urar,ce Act, aad it was in dealing with this on the platform that Mr Buxton referred to his future wife in terms which aroased the ii« of her friends. Then Miss Burn took up the cause of the suffering non-combatants in the Balkan War, and while Mr Bqxto-n was superintending relief in Thrace, sbjs successfully organ isad lecture* and relief agencies in the constituency. It was tbis association in a cause for which Mr Buxton lias labored for so many years that led up to a more intimate attachment and this charming romance.
