THE DAVIS CUP. A New York cable says: A vigorous effort is being made to secure the playing of a Davis Chip contest in this city. The Canadians having expressed their inability to meet the Australians in England, New York was suggested as a convenient centre. The Canadians, however, desire to play on the home grounds if possible.
