MILITARY AT MATARAE

THE GENERA! ARRIVES.

PRAISE FROM COLONEL [Fr-cw Orn Own Reporter.]

MATARAE CAMP, April 28. General Hamilton, accompanied by hil staff and the Hon. James Allen, reached camp at 1.30. After lunching the General rods out to the western side of the railway line, where the mounted infantry and other arms were doing regimental work. After inspection tho General was to proceed to Glad brook.

Colonel Robin, of the Headquarters Staff, stated to-day that both m to sanitary arrangements and the disposal of refuse, etc., the camp Was a credit to the district. As for their behaviour, ho did not think that either in the Territorial camps at Home, the Regular camps, or the French camps he had ever spent so quiet a night as his night in the Matarae camp. This showed either that the men were very amiable and looking upon the disciplinary training in the proper light, or else that the day's work make them {men and horses) glad to rest. It was the quietest camp he had ever been in.
