TESTING A SHELL

(London ' Times' and Sydney ' Sun ' Services.)

PARIS. April 24. A shell crashed through a. window of a flat early this morning. It filled the room with smoke and dust and broke a mantelpiece. It was fired from a gun being secretly tested from a military aeroplane. The inventor chims that it will pierce an iron shutter and wreck a room at 1,000 yards. A splendid demonstration was given of the efficiency of the gun, which is 6jft long. It projects from a sort of trough on a strongly-built biplane.
