A COMMON EMPIRE
WANTED, A' CONVENTION. (London ' Times' and Sydney ' Sun' Services.) LONDON, April 26. The Agent-General for Tasmania (Sir John M'Ccll), deploring the general apathy, respecting tlie Empire, suggests, in addition to the Imperial Premiers' Conference, that Mr Asquith should, for the same year, convene a convention consisting of the leaders of all Governments and Oppositions and other important political parties within the Empire, to arrange for a united Empire Defence Convention, to sit in private, and afterwards submittn.fi? conclusions to the people of the different parts of the Empire. It ought also to be understood that any portion of the Empire standing out should not be entitled to demand (that protection which "otherwise would be its right.
