UNITED FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' DISPENSARY

The twenty-seventh annual' meeting of the Dunedin United Friendly Societies' Pispensaoy was held on Friday evening in the Rattray Street Hall. Seventy delegates, representing the 42 branches connected with the institution, were present. Mr James O'Connor occupied the chair. In moving the adoption of the balanceshet the Chairman congratulated the members on the very satisfactory result of the past year's transactions. The Dunedin dispensary was, without doubt, the most prosperous in the Dominion The membership now stood at 6,904, embracing all the friendly societies in Dunedin and suburbs. The number of prescriptions dispensed to members was 55,333 —an average of ei"-ht per member. The arrangement with the Hospital Board for the use of free beds for members was recognised as a great boom, and members would be glad to learn that this had been Tenewed on the same terms for another year. The co-operation of the Hospital authorities and staff was much appreciated. The amount now standing to credit of profit and loss was £10,473 6s Id. The board recommended that the usual dividend of 20 per cent, be paid to branches on the amount of capital invested, absorbing £344 ss, also to write £25 off fittings account, caiTying forward the balance (£10,103 16s 7d) to next year. The report and balance-sheet were adopted by acclamation. It was decided to vote the sum of £SO to the Medical School. It was resolved that a hearty vote of thanks be conveyed to the staff for their loyal and efficient services, and that a bonus of 10 per cent, be paid on all salaries in appreciation. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President. Mr W. Q. Lumley; vice-president, Mr J. H. F. Bamel; treasurer, Mr P. Miller (re-elected); secretary, Mr James Macfie (re-elected). The retiring members of the board weiie all elected —viz., Messrs F. Calvert, A. S. Adams, D. Larnach, G. T. Scoones. W. Reid, D. M. Miller, and James O'Connor.
