SCHOOL COMMITTEE REPORTS

GREEN ISLAND. The Green Island School Committee, in their annual report, states that the attendance through the year was satisfactory, j The average attendance for the various quarters wae: June, 573; September, 360} -| December, 365; and March, 362- 1 henumber on the roll at present is 381. At the annual examination Inspectors Bossence and Robertson reported in a highly satisfactory manner on the efficiency of the school. At the proficiency examination an excellent result was obtained. Of the board's junior scholarships, one was gained by a pupil of this school. A sum of money was raised, for the improvement of the school grounds. This money was spent in making a lawn in the front of the school and iu ploughing, grading, and sowing. gras6 in the boys' playground. The teachers and children still maintain their mte-j rest in the school gardens, with the result that the school and its grounds have greatly improved in appearance. A large number of books have been added to the library this year. The children eagerly avail themselves of the opportunity of obtaining useful and interesting volumes. The scope of the library has also been enlarged—children from Standard 11. to Standard VI. being permitted to obtain books. The Revs. J. Kilpatrick and F. Frost still continue their weekly Bible lessons, and their work is much valued by the children and parents. Towards the end of last year funds were raised for starting a fife and drum band in connection with the school. The project was received enthusiastically by tho boys and their instructor (Mr H. G. M"Donald), who devote* much of his spare time to the instruction of the boys. Great progress has already been made, the band playing daily for the marching and exercising of the school children. The school football team won the O.F.A. banner of the third class competition. The balance-sheet shows a credit of £29. NORTH-EAST HARBOR. The . annual report states that _ the attendance during winter and spring was not too good, but in the last quarter it had ri<=en to the satisfactory average of 42. Ihe number at piesent on the roll is 30 boys and 16 girls. The annual examination was held on September 2, and -the committee are pleased to congratulate Mr Menzies and Miss Mathieson on the excellent report received from the inspectors. The sum 0£,£14 14s has been raised by wav of concerts during tho year. The bal-ance-sheet shows the receipts for the year to be £56 12s lid, which includes the balance (£ls 4s 8d) brought forward from last year, and the expenditure has amounted to £36 9s 7d, thus leaving a credit balance of £2O 3s 4d. The committee veiy much regret losing the services of Miss Mathieson. who has so ably filled the position of mistress for over five years. The committee have expended the sum of £2 18s 9d on books for the school library, thereby adding some 80 books. They have also carried out several improvements to the school grounds and fences.
