"A LAME DUCK."

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—-The cable beaded ' Battleship Race' in Thursday's ' Star' is another convincing proof (or should be so) to the Hon. the' Minister of Defence of the farce of a segregated navy. The proof lies in the faet of its utteo inutility, because a " float jng fortress," H.M.S. New Zealand, built only a few years ago, ie now unable to hold her own in a battle fleet of fortresses in the first line of defence. T would respectfully refer the Hon. the Minister to & recent article on the same subject which appeared in 'Fairplay.' The British Empire has for its foundation one Flag, one Fket, one Throne, indissoluble and indisfidlvable.—l am, etc., Frederick Mallard. April 27.
