GREEN ISLAND COUNCIL.
Th* monthly meeting of tbo'Green Island Thorough Council wns held on Monday night, there being' present the Mayor (Mr WifJiarni Cteddas), Ur§ ' Brenner, Christie, Atkinson, Wilsonj Samson, Jackson, J. Geddes, Reeve. Kane, Sme-llie, Miljer, and Dr Will. Mr H. Harraway wrote complaining of altered conditions in front of his mill sinco the council formed and kerbed th© footpath there.—To be dealt with by Works Committee. It ■was agreed to grant tbo request oi Mrs Beeve for the use of the library room for nursing classes. The Secretary of the Motor Association -wrote regarding Topairs to Look Out Point, and" offering to assist •with the expense.— It was resolved that the association be informed that as the year's allocations were expended the council would spend immediately all money forwarded, and would consider any donations for next year's allocations. The Finance Committee reported that th* bank overdraft, after paying account*, amounted to £754 12s 7d. Analysis of accounts: —Water account (credit), £214; cemetery account (credit). £l4 Is 10dj district fund account (debit), £982 14s Sd; water loan iiccount (credit), £55 16s Id.. The committee recommended that the general rate ior the ensuing term bo Is 8d in th* £, and the water rate the same as last year.^—Adopted. The Drainage Committee reported that they had waited on the owners of factories in the borough interested in the drainaga of Kaikorai Valley, and had .been met very favorably. It whs recommended that Mr Williamu be asked if ho would prepare a plan of the drainage scheme an the some terms and conditions as formerly offered. They also recommended that they be per-* mitted to rnteiTi&v owners where it was proposed to put*tonka for the drainage.— Adopted. « The Works Committee recommended:That the letters from Mr Lomas and Anderson's, Limited, Christchurch, be re. ceived ; that Mr Loudon's letter be- held over until March 31; that Mr W. T. Sn elite's letter regarding cutting: trees at the school be received; that Mr Harraway ho advised that the usual method/was for the owner of property to apply for a crossing where- waited., and the council to put it in at the property-owner's expens© ; that Mr Freeman bo informed that owing to existing legislation the council ec.uld not entertain thfc offers made? by adjoining property-holders with reference to Armstrong's road.—Adopted. The Mayor reported having bought the old echool site for the borough, which now had the whole of the frontage from th.3 cemetery to the manse.—Action approved.
The Water Committee recommended that the request by th© Education Beard for a supply of water to the Concord School 1» granted, subject to the waterworks by-law ; also subject to the waterworks engineer's approval.—Adopted.
