IRON AND STEEL
PROSPECTS FOR THE INDUSTRY. PROPOSALS TO COME. BEFORE PARLIAMENT. [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, December 12. Mr Okey asked the Primo Minister this morning if the Government would assist the iron and steel industry of New Zealand by offering a. bonus for all marketable steel produced. Mr Masscy replied that the Government had given a great, deal of consideration to the matter, much correspondence having passed between the Government and the persons interested, who had given the Government to understand that they are prepared to initiate and develop the industry. The matter had arrived at such a stage that the Government were prepared to submit certain proposals, which he believed would be acceptable to the porsons concerned. If so they would have to bo submitted to Parliament for approval next session. Mr Masscy assured the lion, member that the Government wero doing everything possible, to get tho industry started in New Zealand, in what be believed to be conditions favorable to the rjoojd* of til* owotO.
