DRAINAGE BOARD.

Present at the ordinary meeting last night-:—Messrs Arkle (chairman), Douglas, Marlow, Hancock. M'Farlane, Burnett, Small, Farqubarson, and Dr Pulton. —OQices.— The committee set up to consider the matter of offices recommended two buildings from which the board might select. The Works Committee failed to agree as to which of the two buildings to choose. In open meeting, Cr Marlow moved that a sub-committee bo set up to report on the proposal to erect tho new offices -on a suitable site to be- selected. Dr Fulton moved as an amendment that offices be taken in Hallenstein's buildings. He said that the present offices were shockingly insanitary, and in parte affected by the borer. He spoke vigorously on the immediate necessity of a change. The board owed it to their employees not to endanger their health. During the past 12 months several of the board's staff had been ill—this being caused by the gaspipes under the building and the burnt gas in the office. He would resign his seat at next election as a protest against tho treatment of the staff if the board would not agree- to the amendment. Mr Burnett seconded the amendment, which was carried. Mr Farquhaj-Eon gave notice to move at the next meeting that Dr Fulton's motion be rescinded.. —Maori Hil}— A deputation from Maori Hill Council to urge that the south end of Ganiiington road be drained as speedily as possible had their request referred to the Works Committee. Mr Slingev eaid the cost would bs £2,500. —Tainui.— Tho Worke Committee reported on the question of the inclusion of Tainui by itself in the drainage area. This was not favored, but no objection had been raised to Taiuui's inclusion with Sunshine and Bay Town on condition that such inclusion did not impose any burden op the ratepayers of the present area.—The report was adopted.
