LAWN TENNIS
The Otago Lawn Tennis Association opened their 28th season on Saturday afternoon. .Althouph the weather in town gave promise of a very windy afternoon, it was found on arrival at, the. association's courts at Anderson Bay that the wind was not nearly so bad as in the City: in fact, bv 3 p.m. the conditions were almost ideal, the slight breeze tempering tho sun's rays. Mr T. Begg (president) gave a short, address, and. having declared the season open, proceedings were, commenced with a match President v. Vice-president. hi which the honors went to the president's side. Each town club sent one pair, and 12 pairs occupied six of the courts simultaneously, lfigh-class tennis is not looked lor thus early in tho season; moreover, same of the pairs were rather weak. The only match of interest was S. N. Brown and Miss Cramond against R, Willcie and •Miss Marks, which was won bv the firstnamed pair. At tho conclusion of the match, which only occupied about half an hour, tho courts were thrown open to all and sundry, and play continued till a late hour.
