(Received August 21, at 8.5 a.m.y Desperate though unscientific fighting, consisting of ceaseless rifle fire by the Government troops, continues around Nanking. It is maintained in the hope that the rebel defenders will exhaust their ammunition and yield. Unconfirmed reports state that the Northerners have captured the city.
