SPEECH BY SIR R. ISAACS.
THE GROWTH OF ARMAMENTS. LONDON, June 29. (Received June 30, at 11.25 a.m.) Speaking at Newcastle, Sir Rufus Isaacs declared that Great Britain never stood so high or held a more prominent position in the councils of Europe than to-day. Every Liberal regretted the increasing expenditure on armaments, but despite all efforts to secure a reduction they were in this position; that if others go forward Great Britain cannot lag behind. Tho Government claimed some credit for the fact that hitherto they had been able to defend tho Empire by voluntary service. MERE TITTLE-TATTLE. LONDON, June 29. (Received June 30, at 11.40 a.m.) Speaking at Leicester, Mr Ramsay Macdonald said there was absolutely no foundation for the statement that the National Executive of the Labor party had issued a manifesto, nor for Mr Mastermani's amended explanation. The whole story was the outcome of mere tittletattle.
