DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY
The adjourned meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery was held in First Church Hall this morning, the Rev. Graham H. Bal four (Moderator) presiding over a fair attendance of members. After hearing the Rev. Professor Hewitson, it_ was moved to grant leave to hold a sendee in the chapel of Knox College, and power to dispense the sacrament of the Lord's Supper.—A discussion took place as to the time of hold inc the service—at 9 a.m. or 11 a.m.—An amendment was moved to the effect that the matter should be nostpnned until the next meeting.—The motion was carried by a small majority. .Memorial minutes were presented in connection with the deaths of Captain M'Calhim and Mr W. Bennett. The Presbytery passed a resolution expressing appreciation of Rev. A. Don’s services. The Rev. James Chisholm read a report of the joint commission from the Presbyteries of Clutha and Dunedin in ro Waihola church. After exhaustive inquiry' regarding the Waihola charge, and a long conference on various schemes whereby it might be strengthened, the commission proceeded on the basis that if there was to be, as had been suggested, any attempt made to join Henley to Waihola, then the number of services held in the Waihola charge would need to be reduced. It was though* that one of the services at Taieri Beach And the service at Taieri Ferry mi"ht be eliminated. Tt would thus be quite within the ability of a Waihola minister to overtake Henley. The question whether South Taieri would regard itself as compensated for the loss of Henley by having Momona included in the charge could not be dealt with until fuller information was obtained. At this stage the suggestion that Waihola should be joined to Milbum was revived by Mr Little and supported by Mr Brabvn. This, it was felt, would debar further proceedings, seeing that the whole of the territory covered by Waihola and Milbum is within the bounds of the Clutha Presbytery. It was therefore una.niraouly agreed to refer the whole matter back to the Clutha Presbytery for a definite and final 'deliverance regarding the proposal made by two of its commissioners.—The report was adopted. Several remits from the General Assembly were considered.
