At Berlin a woman fell from a balloon at a height of 600 ft, and was killed. Arthur Cavill, the Australian swimmer, dived in a sack from a bridge on the Lewis River at Seattle, U.S.A. He struck a buoy and was injured, and nearly drowned. When taken to a hospital he was in a serious condition. The health authorities have condemned St. James’s Church at the comer of Collins and William streets. It was the first church built in Melbourne, having been erected in 1838 After a severe fight the Italians dislodged a number of Bedouins who were entrenched in the bills at Sidigarba (Tripoli). There were beavv losses on both sides. In St. Petersburg 111 May Day conspirators were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. Abdul Hamid, the ex-Sultan of Turkey, is reported to be seriously ill. A boat with 20 bluejackets belonging to the> destroyer Itchen was swamped at Granton. Seven men were drowned.
