WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY
REDUCTION IN CODED MESSAGES. THE FUTURE OF WIRELESS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, May 14. (Received May 14, at 10 a.m.) Commenting on Canada's . recentlyannounced contract with the Poulsen Wireless Company, Mr Milward, Australian manager of the Pacific Cable Board, foreshadowed a reduction in the cost of coded cables to London from 3s to 2s Bd, a saving of 4d per word. Though he had no information from his London office on the matter, he says that if the wireless system proves efficient and of benefit to the public, the Pacific Cable Board will certainly m-ike arrangaments with the Poulsen Company to cany their messages to Australia. Whatever reduction in rates could be obtained would be passed on to -the public. At the same time, he looked upon wireless communication across the Atlantic as in a somewhat nebulous state. Something would have to be done to make the system more reliable than it is at present before it can be generally used for commercial and Press purposes.
