COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS

CONFERENCE OF THE UNITED ASSOCIATION. The 18th annual conference of the United Commercial Travellers' Association of Australia, fixed for Dunedin this year, began today. The delegates are : New South Wales— Messrs T. P. Sheet (president), J. S. Barnes, and T. O'Slmnesy; VictoriaMessrs W. E. A. Brown (president), W. M'A. Stuart, and S. I?. Smith; South Australia—Messrs T. Kean and E. Berry ; Queensland—T. W. Meiklejohn (past president) ; Western Australia—Messrs G. L. Lukin (past president) and Crawford Young; Tasmania—Messrs W. J. M. Peireo (president), -T. Duncan, and J. Keck; New Zealand—Messrs F. W. Mitchell, S. T. Mirams, and James Brown. Mr Dugald M'Phcrson, united preeident,, presided. There were also present: Mr A. Winton •lack (hon. treasurer), Mr .las. Davies (general secretary), and by special invitation the following representatives from the two northern New Zealand associations, viz. : —Wellington C.T. and W.A.—Messrs F. W. Manton and E. A. Phelps; Auckland C.T. and W.A.—Messrs G. Squirrell and D. W. M'Lean. The delegates fro;n the Commonwealth came across by the Moeraki, and had a fine-weather passage that was made enjoyable by the attentions of Captain Colliiiß and hii officers. Dunedin was reached by the 11 a.m. express to-day, the party being mot on the station by Mr M'Pherson, Mr Brown, and other local members. The. visitois were promptly driven to their hotels, and there.-was a general muster at the clubhouse in Dowling street at noon, when the delegates were, officially welcomed. The conference sat at 2.30 to-day, and will probably meet again to-night. To-morrow the conference is to sit in the morning and afternoon, and in the evening the Union Steam Ship Company are to entertain the visiting delegates at dinner on biard the Moeraki. There will be further sittings on Wednesday, and a smoke concert in the evening. On Thursday there is to be a drag drive to Wai-Rongoa via Outram.
