Total, 1,742. At the conclusion of the meeting the usual complimentary speeches were made, and cheers ajid countercheers given. Colonel Smith stated that out of the 60 competitors in the Intel-provincial Mat:>h only 18 Territorials competed, and of these very few were young Territorials, a number being old volunteers, who still did service in the Territorials. It was, perhaps, not to be expected that the young fellows would come forward during the first season, but he hoped that at next meeting more young fellows would come forward, and the ' old stagers " could retire to the shelf. A London cable to the Sydney ' Sun' states that the National Rifle Association lack funds, and it is feared that no team will be sent to the American internationals at Ohio in September.
