BRIGHTON FLORAL FETE
The floral fet» promoted by the Brighton Improvement Society was held on SaUvday, and notwithstanding: the unfavorable weather experienced was a decided success. Mr John bray was at the head of things, and he was backed up by a large number of willing helpers. The produce stall was in charge of Mrs Swan and assistants, Mrs JJoorley, who was helped by a number of young ladies, presided at the sweet stall, and the refreshment tent was in the care of Mesdames Aslm and Wright and Misses Coutts, Whitsou, and others. A shootinogallery was a popular institution. The sports items were got off with promptness, Mr Mlndoe, assisted by Messrs G. Hunter ?" *r Wn S ht . jun., being in charge. Mr L. Aslm, the .secretary, had a hard day, and was kept at his duties till late in the evening. Mr W. Forrester, who carried out tho work of treasurer, announced that the takings, including the concert, amounted io over £6O, without ticket money. The proceeds are to be used in building a shelter pavilion on the Domain, and otherwise providing for the convenience of visitors and residents. At the close of the fete Mr C. E. Slatham, M.P._, in the absence of the member for the district, presented the prizes. Moore, Yuill, Thomson, and R. Aslin. Glees were given by the membess of the Lyric Club (Messrs Braithwaite. R. C. Moore, Ware!, Captain Doorlov, and Ma.slers Jack and Archie MTndoe).
