GOLF.
The Amateur golf championship of Canterbury was played on the Shirley links, Christchurch, on Saturday, and was won by B. C. Rutherford (166 strokes). B. B. Wood (171 strokes) was runner-up. The Morning Medal Handicap was won by N. K. Cox (Timaru), and the Afternoon Medal Handicap by C. Humphries (New Brighton). The following is the draw for the Bogey Match of the St. Clair Ladies' Golf Club, to bs played to-morrow:—Mrs Wood v. Miss Burt, Mrs Gihay v. Mrs Isaacs, Mrs M'Carthy v. Miss Taine, Miss Gregg v. Mis* Fynmore, Mrs Kahlenberg a bye The Junior Medal Match of the St.' Clair Ladies' Golf Club was won by Miss Fynmore with a score of 108 (handicap 27, net 81). France's premier golf club, the Societe de la Boulie, has established an organisation among the caddies to rai6© them from the ranks of poverty, and to do away with the evil of casual labor.
