"It is so costly to-day,' said the furrier, "that it can only be secured by private sale. A sin 2 lo pelt of the black fox fetches from £l5O to £350, and for a lady's coat at, least four aro necessary. Even at a, public sale, at the beginning of the winter, one pelt realised ±,SIU. This will hardly seem credible, to many ladies who have a .muff from tho black fos in their possession. It may, however, be of inferior qualify, or a dved Indian or Russian fur—in anv case, it cannot, be "the real thing" if ■purchased at a smaJl price this year. Mr Harrison Watson, Ihn official agent for Pnnce Edward Island, told a. 'Daily Lhronicln' representative that he himself was sceptical when he heard of the fabuous price commanded by tho fox pelts in the open market, but was assured bv tho Minister for Agriculture that the figures were correct, "Six pairs of hrceding x oXC rVo^n l,d Mr Watson,."have been sold tor £20.000 to a Russian syndicate, which intends to compete with the Canadians, the supply of furs for the next five years will be small, because the foxes are to be kept for breeding purposes.". It may not be generally known that the, black and silver fox are ono and the same animal; some are silvered, while others are not, but experienced breeders have discovered that they can produce at will any desired color.
