A SYNDICALIST SQUABBLE

'La Bataiile Svndicalistc.' an extreme Socialist paper in Paris, lias L 'oL into serious trouble, not with the law or its political opponents, but with its own members (says the Paris correspondent of a- London paper). Two prominent Socialist leaders—Pata.ud (the electric light extinguisher) and Janvion—had a. grievance' against the editorial staff of the paper. Janvion bad written an article, which the editor. M. Gogumus, acting on* instructions from the directors, declined, to publish. Pataud and Janvion, in a- rage, entered the offices of tho ' Bataillo Syndicah'ete.' and made a peremptory demand upon M Gogumus for the publication of the article. M. Gogumus, faithful to his clutv, declined. M. Janvion thereupon made an attack with his fist on M. Gogumus and reddened his nose>. The 'Bataillo Svndicaliste' says that M. Gogumus was rather grievously hurt, and had to go to a chemist's for atter dance. Janvion and his friends, not satisfied with having thus attacked tho editoT, ransacked the desks of the office, where documents were kept. They destroyed and took what they pleased, and then left the office. Before doing so Janvion insolently asked the members of the fitaff how they earned their salaries. Was it not, hs roared in a fury, "with the money supplied byy;tho Royalists of the ' Action Francaise *" ? In ' the midst .if the row M. I'ataud, in a stentorian voice, also shouted that- the directors of the Socialist paper did not dare to summon a- general meeting of the shareholders. " TheFe are the deplorable scenes." adds the ' Bataille Syndicaliste,' "" which happened in our office." A general assembly was accordingly convened to discuss the measures to be taken on account of this scai;.dal. and that was where matters stood when the last English mail left.
