Advices from outside centres are reassuring, and show that the hurricane mainly affected Suva. The Rewa banana planters are the chief losers. The petroleum wells at Banamoreni (Rumania) have been burnt. Seven people are. dying, and many are severely injured. Hugh Duncan, aged 16, was found guilty of the. murder of John Conolly (New South Wales) on November 5, hut was recommended to mercy on account of deficiencv in intellect. He was formally sentenced to death.
William James (Sydney) sentenced to nine mouths' imprisonment for the manslaughter of Ralph Chambers. Charles Henry Miller, who was convicted_ on a charge of manslaughter arising out of the death of James Tcdree (New South Wales), was sentenced to two vears’ imprisonment.
The Federal Attorney-General (Mr Hughes) denies the rumor'that he intends to leave politics. He says he will contest West Sydney at the Federal elections.
