A fire at Bearey and Sons foundry at Grey Lynn, Auckland, did damage to the extent of about £6OO. The loss is covered by a policy in the south British Office. It is reported that as a result of the protest by master butchers against ttio porposeel feeding charges at the new City abbatoirs, there is a likelihood oi these being reduced by something like GO per cent. The council proposed making a feeding charge of od. per head per week, or fraction thereof, on sheep, and is per head for cattle. The butchers were, willing to pay Is for cattle, but strongly objected to pay 6d per head for sheep, maintaining that the charge was uuveasonabLc. It is understood that au uxnevunent has now been carried out <*ritU SO sheep at the abbatoirs, and U\a coat worked out at something like 3d per head. ,
