MINING.
The Ri*e and Shine dredge -worked :i cut of 70yds last week, making 16ft ahead. The ground, which was 46ft deep, was very poor. Owing to the rise in the river the Electric No. 1 dredge has proceeded to ground on the Bannockbum side of the river. There will not, in all probability, bo a wash-up this week. During the past 10 days the Muddv Terrace claims have been* fully supplied with water., and three have been in operation. Prospects at the Karannui claim are not looking as good as they were recentlv. The crew of the Electric No. 2 dredge have been suspended, the ground proving too deep in the present state of the river. _ The secretary of the Xokomai Hydraulic Sluicing Company reports that owing to an: insufficiency of water No. 1 did not get a start. As soon as Xo. 5 has finished blowing tailings, Xo. 1 will utilise the Lion water. Xo. 2 finislied blowing off top material to a depth of 25ft. Xo. 3 washed up on Friday for a return of 2830t:. AH the plant has been got out of the old paddock ready for shifting lower down the claim.
The Waikaia dredge is still going west and is now parallel with the downward cut lnere is no change to report except that the timber has given out, enabling bettor time to be made. THE SHARE MARKET.
