CRICKET
THE O.C.A. A meeting of the committee of the Otago Cricket Association, held last, evening was presided over by Mr J. Hope. The Wellington Association wrote expressing regret at being unable to send a team to Dunedin this season, and stating that next year a team would delinitely visit Dunedin. A system of annual matches, to be played in Dunedin and Wellington alternately, was suggested.—The secretary was instructed to reply that the association would he pleased to fall in with the arrangements for interprovincial mate-lies as arranged at the conference held in Wellington. In connection with the challenge match for the Plnnket Shield, to he played a.tChristchurch at Easter, the Canterbury Association advised that Messrs R. Spencer and A. Wilson had been appointed umpires, subject to the approval of the Otago Association, and that, Messrs Salverson and Tilly short had been appointed scorers. Arrangements had been made for the accommodation of the visiting team.—The Secretary stated that, after conferring with several members of the committee, he had replied suggesting that, umpires he appointed from Messrs Spencer. Hardic, and Cargill. A reply to his letter had not been received. Secretary’s action con-' finned. With regard to the Otago-Sonthland cricket match at Invercargill. Mr W. Tweedy, manager of the Otago team, reported asking the association to consider the advisability of extending the game to a three days' fixture. He also recommended that caps he awarded to the members of the team. The Otago-Sonthland match was a representative fixture, and ho therefore thought members of the team were entitled to the privilege.—A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Tweedy for his efficient management of the team. Corresphndence in connection with the second grade match. St, Kilda. v. Carishrook C. which the former team claim on the ground that the Carishrook team declined to play on the ground provided, was referred to the (Trade Committee. It. was decided that the team to visitChristchurch should leave Dunedin by the first express on Good Friday. HAWKE CUP. The match between South Auckland .and 'Wanganui for the Hawke Cup was commerced at Hamilton yesterday in fine weather. South Auckland made 319 runs in their first innings, and Wanganui have lost six wickets for 61.
